Preakness probabilities will likely favor Animal Kingdom on Saturday, May 21st in the 136th racing of the preakness.
The Preakness is the 2nd competition in mount racing’s Triple Crown and the shortest of the three competitions. Get ready for Preakness gambling by beginning an account at the sportsbook.
Preakness probabilities have been in existence since 1873 and the competition has been run every year except for 2 years in the late 1800’s. The competition was first run at a mile and a half but that was quickly adjusted to a mile and fourth.
The competition then was run at a mile and a quarter, a mile and a sixteenth, a mile and 70 yards, one mile, a mile and an eighth and the current mile and 3/16th. The greatest crowd in Preakness wagering was in 2001 when 104,454 were in attendance at Pimlico. The all-time top trainer was Robert W. Walden with 7 victories while jockey Eddie Arcaro had 6 victories.
When you prepare for Preakness handicapping you want to remember that the greatest post is #6 while the #4 is 2nd greatest. The rail is not the kiss of death in the Preakness that it is in the Derby as a variety of horses have won from the rail even though many of those victories were early in the race’s history.
Unlike the Derby, favorites do very well in the Preakness. In fact, favorites win the Preakness close to half the time. Underdogs basically do not do well in the Preakness so do not anticipate to see the major payoffs that you saw in the Derby. The longest shot to ever win the Preakness was Master Derby at 23-1.
Huge name horses have won the Preakness the last three years. Last year it was Lookin at Lucky, in 2008 it was Rachel Alexandra and in 2007 it was Curlin. This year the favorite in Preakness probabilities will be Animal Kingdom who’s arriving from a quality win in the Derby.
Three years ago Huge Brown won the Preakness following winning the Derby but the mount failed in the Belmont. There has not been a Triple Crown champion since Affirmed in 1978. Animal Kingdom will attempt to win the Preakness on Saturday, May 21st and stay alive for mount racing’s Triple Crown.
