The New Jersey Devils were a very excellent team a year ago vs the NHL lines at the sports book website but not this season. They are off to a rotten start including being losing vs the online sports book at home. Things aren’t getting any greater either as their head coach and star player are at odds.
Last year the Devils had a excellent season and were eliminated by the Flyers in the Conference Quarterfinals and attained to the playoffs for the 5th time back to back.
$100 Million Dollar Man Benched – The big story in New Jersey is that head coach John MacLean benched star scorer Ilya Kovalchuk. Sometimes when you sideline a star player it can pay benefits but New Jersey ran out and embarrassed themselves on Saturday, losing at home 6-1 to Buffalo. The decision to sideline Kovalchuk now appears very bad.
Kovalchuk re-signed with the Devils in July for $100 million over the next fifteen years with decreased amounts in the last handful of years. That’s a pretty significant contract for a player to be benched for no evident purpose. It’s not apparent right now why rookie Devils coach MacLean decided to take him out of play. MacLean would only say that Kovalchuk knows why he was benched. He came back to the game on Sunday evening and pretty much said that he was thrilled to be there and all set to play.
Winless at Home – The Devils are losing at home this season at 0-4-1 vs the lines at the online sports book. It’s the lengthiest losing streak at home since 1983. The Devils are evened up for the worst record proportion wise in the NHL.
6-1 Slaughter – The Devils were just torn apart on Saturday evening at home by the Buffalo Sabres. Ryan Miller stopped 26 shots as the Sabres steam rolled the Devils at Prudential Center. Thomas Vanek landed twice whilst Tyler Ennis had a goal and an assist for the Buffalo Sabres. Zach Parise landed the only goal for New Jersey. Johan Hedberg started in goal but was weak as he gave up four goals on fifteen shots. Martin Brodeur finished the game and let in 2 more. And a healthy Ilya Kovalchuk observed the whole game from the sideline as he was a healthy scratch.
Impending Schedule – If you believe things are going to change for New Jersey vs the NHL lines at the sports book website, you might want to look at the upcoming schedule. The Devils go on the road for a big road trip and it began on Sunday in New York. They then have to fly across the nation for competitions at San Jose, Anaheim, Los Angeles and Vancouver. It appears like they might need their $100 million dollar man on that trip if they’re to win anything on the road vs the sports book lines. New Jersey is last in the league in goals per game so perhaps their head coach will should come to his senses and put Kovalchuk back into the lineup.
